A playbook to prepare for your future of work
What do we all want to get out of work? Out of working with each other? Or working for a particular company? We’ve just spent the past year and half in a way that has pushed many of us to ask these deeper questions. We’ve felt freedom, chemistry and collaboration in different ways… good and bad. And it’s the reason why companies like Apple and Google are receiving strong push-back from employees who felt unheard or misunderstood.
While cognitive biases from leadership have certainly played a major role in the revolt, so has the miss of not approaching the return more holistically. Most organizations are (understandably) taking the transition to a permanent hybrid work model in a very practical, policy-driven fashion. One characterized by weekly schedules, time-away protocols and other logistical solutions. Those, of course, need to be solved, but employees have now experienced new ways of working, collaborating and behaving that are setting new expectations for how work should work in the future.
In order to get the return-to-work right, organizations should consider all the factors that drive their teams’ behaviors and ultimate contributions. What are the tools, rituals and processes needed to effectively get work done? What are the physical, environmental and programmatic elements needed from their workspaces to facilitate well-being and productive work modes? And what mindsets are being coached and modeled through leaders and teammates to ensure the team flourishes? These are the kinds of questions organizations and teams need to be asking and codifying on their return to work. The ones that, when answered, bring all the pieces together to drive behaviors that lead to engagement and productivity.
The Amphibian Team created a playbook to help think through and answer these questions, so teams are prepared and invested in their return to work. We hope it helps, and of course, if you need more help, please give us a shout.
