Our mission to build more adaptive workplaces

It’s the first official post from the team here at Amphibian, so we thought we’d jump on our soapbox for a minute and explain how we came to be.

Before we were amphibians, we were human beings with careers across brand and business consulting, the corporate and non-profit worlds and start-ups. During that time, we worked with companies of all shapes and sizes. We got to meet people from all walks of life from the manufacturing floor to the executive suite. And, if there’s one thing we learned about the workplace, it’s that companies accomplish great things when humans are given the right conditions.

So, we set out to help companies define those conditions. To create adaptive, supportive work experiences where people can flourish.

Over the past decade, many organizations across the globe have put varying degrees of effort into reinventing the work experience to keep pace with change. But when the pandemic hit, they found themselves being forced to change breathtakingly fast – with the transition to hybrid working norms the mere tip of the iceberg. Major global shifts in sustainability, social justice, employee well-being, diversity, and even evolving financial platforms are challenging companies to evolve even faster.

Moving forward, companies need to be more than resilient in the midst of change. They need to be incredibly adaptable – capable of adjusting to new conditions quickly and then growing as a result.

This requires companies to put even more priority on the workplace experience as a growth strategy, and to do so with a holistic mindset. At Amphibian, we believe modern, flourishing workplaces need to consider and expand upon a few foundational elements:

  • Helping teams define their value and link to the greater purpose of an organization

  • Creating cultures of collaboration and trust where the when, how and what we work on are supported with the right cultural and thought diversity

  • Designing space, processes and technology that nourish and empower productivity

  • Establishing programs and experiences that support team health, energy and focus

  • Developing leaders who can navigate teams through the complexities of an adapting workplace with empathy, vulnerability and psychological safety

A framework for building a more Adaptive Workplace

These priorities are the basis of our Adaptive Workplace model and can’t be considered soft or idealistic anymore. The growing collection of research and science on productivity and well-being is undeniable; and we’ve seen firsthand how business value increases when humans flourish at work.

We wake up excited to help companies tackle this incredibly important challenge of transformation. And our collective of partners in the fields of leadership, architecture, technology and design have that same passion. So, stay tuned, as we share more thoughts and practicalities on our return to the office and the future of work.
